Ireland to miss WCG 2010

Sadly it now appears that Ireland will be missing WCG 2010. Last year they only sent one representative in the form of a TrackMania Nations Forever player but it now seems the organizers will be skipping the event entirely.

WCG Ireland organizer ie Mark "Kinetic^" Kenny commented:

LanParty.ie and The Digital Hub regret to inform the gaming community here that there will be no WCG event this year in Ireland.

Ireland isn't seen as a key market for the sponsors of WCG (Samsung/Thermaltake etc). With restrictions in place on sponsors as well as requirements for marketing, funding for an event or even an offline qualifier like last year isn't going to work.

We may see a return of the event to Ireland next year.

Although we haven't seen an Irish 1.6 team at the event for a couple of a years, previous attending lineups included ie suiGeneris and mixteam ie Eugh.

Hopefully we'll see them back in 2011.

I've just been pointed in the direction of a new 1.6 tournament called Fragtime being run by a company called FragFighters.

Boasting a £2,700 prizepot, it's apparently free to enter and signups are open now and will close on the 17th of March at 16:00.

The tournament takes place over four weeks, starting on the 22nd of March so if you're interested click here. Only a few teams are currently registered so you've got a good chance of getting in.

Also, they're running a 128 person 1on1 aim tournament with a prizepot of £900. Details about that are on the same link as above.

Looks interesting thats for sure!

Ravens drop turkizh

Posted by ukNic on the 10th of March 2010 at 9:23 AM in Team News.   5 Comments

In stark contrast to their IEM European performance where they finished third, dk Roskilde Ravens failed to even win a group match at the world finals.

Today we see a consquence of that poor performance with dk Christian "turkizh" Bindslev now being removed from the squad. Ravens have not announced a permanent replacement, but have said that former dk SoA man dk Rasmus "FaagaN" Møller will temporarily fill in whilst they try and qualify for EPS Nordic.

Roskilde Ravens is now:

dk Danny "BERRY" Krüger
dk Michael "Friis" Friis
dk Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer
dk Baljit "zE-" Lal
dk Rasmus "FaagaN" Møller (stand-in)

Good luck to them.
