Necro on the 31st of March 2007 at 12:13 PMI am running a wired network with 2 desktops connected to a Belkin router/modem on BT adsl. I have two problems: firstly, the adsl intermittantly loses sync (adsl light starts flashing) and i have to restart the router manually; secondly, even when router is online i cannot connect to irc and cmd pinging ip's shows packet loss. The first problem I've had for a while, but the second only started yesterday.
I have made sure the network is set up correctly from both PC's and the Belkin settings are all correct. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated! xx

If i forgot any information, please ask.
just sounds like your adsl is a bit buggered at the moment, it happens from time to time. I bet if you call them up, they'll tell you that nothing is wrong with it aswell!
try updating to latest router drivers; if you tried this, then try running only 1 pc and see if it still happens. if it does, get BT on the case!
if the router is connected to a pc/laptop via USB, try and get the latest USB drivers for your motherboard, or re-install them. I had a similar problem and it fixed it.
Heh, ive got a belkin router and all the thing does is looses sync if i have it in my dads room which uses an extension cord. If i have plugged directly into the main phone jack in my room doesn't loose sync, sure you haven't got it on a extension cord? They use aluminium wiring and it is known that these can actually completely cancel out the dsl signal.

Get latest firmware for your router, Belkins are crap tbh, i've got a new one being sent by them coz mine is faulty
you need to leave your router on all the time dont switch it off, if u do u will lose sync all day, after that u will be fine.. dunno about your secound problem sos
How many phone extensions do you have in your house? By this i mean how many phone sockets are in the house, because the dB on the line drops with each phone point in the house because it has to be split. This happened to me and the ADSL kept losing sync.
If this is your problem then you will need to get a new line.
You may need a new filter on ur line..only costs a tenner
all the filter does is split the Phoneline from the internet line..but over time they begin to play up
So basically in summary what you guys are saying in this thread is adsl is shit ?
format ur pcs
although that probably wouldnt help you, works for me everytime my pc mashes up
luck, you might be right. we've got 4 phones in our house. all of them are filtered but that might still be the problem!
i'll try unplugging them tomorrow
get virgin media they are AMAZING.
Indeed it could be a power issue coming from an overloaded exchange, or you have recently added more phones to your extension or moved your modem to another extension socket in the house.
If its an overloaded exchange, there's not a whole lot you can do. except maybe try downgrading to a speed that requires less of a powerlevel.
Just make sure your DSL is plugged into the first(main) socket in your house, its important as this is where the copper wiring comes in, and basically every point after that loses more and more power.
However, if its a new router and this is the first time you have had this problem, then trying upgrading the firmware as someone else already mentioned in a previous post.
belkin routers r shit
necro i think its jus the belkin router ,cause i have a belkin wireless g-router and it does that at random parts of the day, usually jus once where it dcs and lights go off starts to flash then connects again, used to do it all the time but the way i fixed it was i dont reboot the router i jus pull power out of it and leave it off for 10 mins then plug it back in.
i work IT and belkin are a problem themselves, stay away!
ive got a netgear router and some microfilters with your name on them.
yay!!
waru, how do i find our which is the primary socket? wiLL iv tried that but it doesnt seem to make much difference xx
Necro if you have 4 or more sockets in your house then your ADSL will drop because the dB level in each isnt sufficient to hold a stable ADSL signal.
I had the same problem and had to order a separate phone line and number to continue using mine.
You cant just plug it into the main phone line, still wont work, you'd have to manaully disconnect the wires behind the socket and render it unusable. Maybe doing this to one will fix your problem.

wrong luck.
sorry had some drink, let me elaborate.
there is 1 master socket in your house, where the copper wiring first comes in, every point after is just a loop, that does indeed lose dB pwrlvl IF you plug your adsl modem into one of them.
However you would not loose any dB pwrlvl if you plug your adsl modem directly into the first "master socket" in your house. I really dont understand what technical basis you ground losing dB pwrlvl by having 4 or more phone sockets in your house, but its just not true.
And before you ask, I dont know what loopy phone wiring system BT had going in your house.
As for finding the master socket, there's opening them all up to find which one has the copper wiring.
Also from what i read there's text saying NTE5 on some master sockets.
Or the simple try and fail, try every socket see which works best.
Hope it helps.
