Innocent Crimes Trailer

Posted by ukProtex on the 17th of August 2008 at 3:46 PM

This post is mainly for anyone that loves films and especially film noir. One of my friends at York St John Uni has just released the trailer to his first feature film; Innocent Crimes.

He has written the screenplay for it and is now directing it with a n initial budget and locations in and around York. A brief overview of the story is given below:

An introverted accountant called Farley sleepwalks through his life in the North of England. Disappointed by his dull existence, one night a stranger called Charles Wells jumps in the back of his car and implicates him in a crime, Farley enjoys the misdemeanour, and soon begins a new friendship with the older man initiating a new life of woman, booze and jazz.

Farley soon realizes that his new friend isn't all he says he is when he shows his kleptomaniac tendencies, breaking into strangers' houses and stealing whatever he can before disposing of it in a river. Robbing for the thrill. Farley at first enjoys the experience but that soon changes when the death of a woman involves Farley in murder.

With the possibility of Farley losing his job, his mother and his freedom, he attempts to reclaim the life he had before it's too late.

It would be great to give him some positive feedback and you can view the trailer on Youtube at this link.

Looks pretty good, how much has this cost him?

The budget is pretty small for a film i.e. 10K which has to pay for equipment, locations etc

Looks good in some ways, I normally dont like films like that, I guess different stuff is good to see.

I'd watch it if it's free.

He's using a JVC HD-200 with HDV tape, you can find some more info at his company site: http://www.carpathianfilms.com

done well to put that together on a small budget, looks really well shot but the sound mixing for the dialog is abit weak

Simply saying that something looks aweful sounds more like trolling than feedback to me.

about the film.. looks ok, but cant tell if its meant to be modern day or not - if its black white it should be set pre-60s imo

westy goaway. pyy why get lemon mate? specially when you look like you do.

ps. didnt read what was posted just watched link looks ok now i see its on a low budget etc.. part from that still going with awful

22

Link to CommentPosted by ukProtex from clanless on Aug 18, 9:23.

It is set in modern day but done in a film noir style; which means black and white and a little "dark" in the storyline. On the budget it was going to set it in any other time than the present as hiring all the necessary props for a pre-1960s shoot would have been even more expensive.

I agree the sound mixing is a little off for the trailer but for the final thing should be ok.

yer looks good. nice story line etc etc

as you said the sound needs sorting out obviously and im not sure about the wardrobe, looks like hes going for a 1960's style wardrobe but with modern day cars and houses...?

From the sypnosis, it seems as if its an attempted mix of films like Fight Club and Collateral.

It has potential but the trailor, whilst well shot - was awful.

"...that soon changes when the death of a woman involves Farley in murder." - surely that should be a little more hard hitting in the trailor, just so viewers know what the hell its about. If I hadn't read your description, I'd have no idea what the hell the movie was about, just 2 guys stealing stuff and throwing it in the river. You don't see any fear in Farleys eyes when told by the police, the trailor just continues on with its music and nice shooting

yea thats what i was thinking sickboy, but the rest looks good Smile

one thing, I dont like that police guy, dont think he can play his role that good... but cant judge from a trailer.

well done by your friend tho, camera work looks good.

ok so a couple of things about this trailer i didn't like (constructive criticism rather than complaints) but some positive things to take from it

the beginning has a constant readjustment of focus, it's kinda annoying
the dress code seems very victorian, yet they drive about in modern cars - it doesn't work.
the director has clearly watched christopher nolans first film "following" and used it as an influence.

possession is nine tenths of the law but they forget about the other tenth which affects the soul???? you what? if we follow the saying: 9/10s of the law = possession 1/10 of the law = soul. EH?

like the film noir references though, which is nice to see, HG Wells.

don't really want to pass judgement too soon as the trailer is gash but the film itself could have potential
