fuck going bed waiting for 6am to check ucas
I thought CS had been about so long now that everyone who played it had already gone to university if they were going to
... not everyones the same age! i started when i was like 13, 18 now. Lots of the people who play now are younger than me, mostly the "old school" players who are older.
spk is still in year 9 and only just got his SAT results so hes still gotta wait a few more years
lol @ anyone who gets below a C in these pieces of piss.
shutup u geek u cud spell dude with mine LOL
not shocked.

enjoy studying hard for the next 3years of ur lives, coming out with atleast 30k debt and ull probably find it hard to get a job.
cy@~
If any of you are planning to go to university for IT, i recommend you do an open university course instead from home, whack down 20hours a week on that with a part time job, 8 months later bang bang industry certified qualifications which means more than any uni degree you can get your hands on, and much cheaper
Stupid comment andeh. If you take a vocational course at university or do a placement year your almost certainly gaurenteed a job; provided you do some work. Studying hard for 3 years? First year is a piss-up and have you ever been to a uni halls / house ?? I wouldn't say much hard work gets done bar pre exam cramming.

won't be any harder than someone whos trying to get a job with just a-levels and no experience will it
b better to get your ass into a job now and get some experience (Y)
depends what u want to do. if you want to be a doctor -> university. law -> university. data administrator -> work. labourer -> apprenticeship.
it solely depends on the path you wish to take, so lets not be ignorant about it. thx
im fairly lucky i've been able to do both, been working as a programmer during holidays full time for the last 2 years and just done my first year of uni : ]
they paying for your course?
You have to look at it from the perspective of someone doing a course at uni like computer science or chemistry. Your not really going to get a job before you finish your degree in those fields, so any experience you get (Im guessing from working in a pub or retailers) will probably count for nothing when applying for your first job.
Hartigan on August 14, 2008, 12:41 pm.
The only decent job experience for university students is the industrial year which is available for most courses now anyway (y)

Just to mention, if your not doing anything specific, university is pretty much rendered useless, my brother studied Computer animation and design and yet now he does business, as a telecom salesworker on 36k basic, he told me that even guys who come in with degrees it doesn't matter coz they train them all over again from the beginning. Obviously for subjects like law and stuff you wanna be going to law school etc but yeah you get the point. Although university is like the place where your life "really blooms" or something like that.

Every summer ive been working in a different job, gaining work experience. This summer im working at Allen and Overy LLP (Magic Circle Law Firm), in their Finance Department. I look to do Management Consultancy for a top accountancy firm (ie PwC) in London which requires a 2:1 or above from a top 10 university.
Uni is not only good for a degree, but its awesome for friends, girls and general BANTER.
I wrote all that cos this is the annual showoff column of course
A Levels BCD Maths Biology Chemistry
UEA dropped out of first year and transferred to Politics
Passed first year of politics with one of the lowest thirds
Work in a pub during the holiday
Uni is not only good for a degree, but its awesome for friends, girls and general BANTER.
only if you're a geek who doesnt normally go out
Posted that because it is the annual fuck up column .
If you get a 2:1 you are guaranteed (pretty much) to get on a graduate scheme at a major company, who pay you 20k a year for 2 years to give you management/HR/accounts (etc) training and then if you do well you get offered a job. Worst comes to worst, you get paid to gain experience and have something extra to shove on your CV. And besides, anyone who says Uni is worthless has clearly never been.

yes soul, thats right.
oh and charlie i love you
Disagree wicked, freshers week is genius, the girls are about as easy as it gets. They have just come to uni so mummy and daddy have been looking after them so they're not fat yet from drinking too much, further more because they don't drink much you just need to buy them one drink their hammered and will do anything. Furthermore all the new lads are completely socially inept so basically theirs pretty much no competition and plenty of gash to go round between the guys who no have a clue. Mind you by start of december girls have cottoned and they lads are starting to pose a threat. Moral of the story.
Get in there early.
of all the man. consultancy firms im applying to (capgemini, mckinsey&co, pwc, kpmg, e&y etc), they start off on £30k, then the year after up to about £35 and so on (that is, working in the city).
LOL charlie! thats why u went for the indian one LOL
adrian we can share a flat in the city together!1!!!1 AND PLAY COUNTERSTRIKE EVERY NIGHT
YYEAAHHHH!!!!!
im doing MMTD at brunel, pretty much guaranteed a 2:1...job prospectives = nil ..its multimedia lmao

don't pick any courses with naomi tadmor. you'll die of boredom. if you can, pick a course with either robert iliffe or jim livesey. the former is the most intelligent historian i've met and the latter is the funniest lecturer you'll probably ever have. the mans a legend.

im at kent studying business going into my thirdy year on a 2:2 which is shit, but im an idiot so meh.
after uni im jus going for any internship i can find thats half decent, then going for an internship after that for 6 months for 1 of the american trade industry firms (they rate uk university degrees higher than us degrees)
then im off into the big bad world.
student loan is the easiest thing ull pay back ever, its like ur parents giving u money. if u dont have a full time job by 25 years old its ignored, and if u leave the country straight after uni, after 2 years the debt is wiped.
cu in hong kong after uni by3
maybe you'll land a job in bangkok
will do you know anything about working in the States after graduation? I really want to do a grad scheme in America but can't really seem to find any info on it ...
'if u dont have a full time job by 25 years old its ignored'
hahahahaha
hahaha
ha
no
tbh i kinda got lucky by inadvertantly going to 1 of my dads big balls for people in the trade (i was just there on holiday, power cut in the hotel meant i had to go along with my parents to it)
got talking to a lot of people there (plus my dad bigging me up) so i had a few people asking after me about possible career paths.
tbh i think if u ask at ur uni careers advice (same people u talk to about year in industry/post-grad internships) they might have some info, as i know people at Kent Uni who have either gone for wat im aiming for, or have done an exchange with an american uni, then got an internship that way.
worst comes to worst try the exchange method, we get a lot of yankees over for 1 year or 6 months, cud be a good bet
wat i was told mbk.............
i think its after 25years...i remember that too. We were told at some meeting during my A-level year
cu in HK will
yeah, something like 25 years after graduating or when ur 55 i think - which ever is earliest, it gets wiped no matter how much uve paid off as far as i can remember. u dont pay anything until u earn 15k (probably about 15.5k now) and then u pay 9% of everything u earn over 15k, so if ur on 16k u pay £90 a year, 17k £180 a year and so on
willyfantastic, considering most people finish uni between 21-25 do you not think it was a bit stupid if u dont have to pay after ur 25? common sense?
^ not sure if its 9% before or after tax, so u might end up paying more than that... im half guessing, dont quote me
yeh the debt is taken from your wages...which is hardly noticeable
ABBB
)
Im loving being a Money Broker. Cannot Street. RP Martins Brokerage. by3by3by3
not really mbk i didnt even think about it, no idea why probably having a stupid day and carried on with it since..
and ill finish uni before im 21 woot
Willyfantastic, how comes your doing your internship after uni? surely you should do it during your 2nd year or even 1st yr if ur lucky
u can do an internship wenever u want.
im doing a post-grad internship cos id rather get my degree out the way before i do an internship
