So, group A is now over in what has been a torrid day for Danish team mTw. The event was plagued by ping issues culminating in a DDoS attack which meant many of the first games suffered lag spikes throughout. Evil Geniuses managed to beat fnatic, but not before fi lurppis won a 3on1 whilst three members of the Swedish team were unable to move. mTw also suffered problems with dk minet showing his anger at the problems here. Despite the issues, fnatic managed to grab second behind the Americans whilst European champions mousesports edged through as well. Replacement team Frag eXecutors had an up and down event, beating mTw and mousesports but sadly losing to oXmoze who ultimately and expectedly finished bottom of the group of death.

Day two started well without the lag problems that had caused issues for fnatic and mTw but sadly after the first few games it was confirmed that DDoS attacks were underway again. The decision was then made to move several matches to the unaffected stage area. SK-Gaming were certainly playing well and after a run of good wins took first. Second went to Na`Vi who managed decent wins throughout the group, schooling coL along the way. After a few poor international tournaments, WeMadeFox sneaked into third and will now take on fnatic in the relegation match. IEM Europe surprises Roskilde Ravens finished bottom after a poor event and MYM faired only a little better coming just above them. Americans compLexity did better than many expected but still failed to go through.

IEM: Global finals - Elimination stage

So, onto the relegation round! Ukrainians Na`Vi took on IEM European champions in the first matchup. Na`Vi eased to victory in the first map with the Germans responding well to take the second. With the final map being de_tuscan it may have been assumed the mousesports may have had the advantage. Not so, Na`Vi fought hard and after one of the tightest games so far they managed to win a semi-final place against EG. In the other matchup, fnatic took on WeMadeFOX and managed to win in two fairly close maps. The Swedes never really looked in massive danger and moved onto face SK in the semis finals.

So, two semi finals, the first consisted of two teams few would have predicted to meet whilst the other promised an epic battle of the Swedish powerhouses. EG took Na`Vi first and after a strong 11:04 half, the Ukrainians broke through EG's defence again and again to win the first map 16:05. The Americans then picked train and a topsy turvy match began with both sides getting momentum at different times. Na`Vi proved the better squad again and moved into the final after a 16:13 win. So, all eyes were then on the second semi-final as two of the biggest teams in Europe faced off but sadly the result was not as exciting as originally billed with fnatic wiping the floor with their Swedish rivals. Two 16:06 victories ensured fnatic move into the final on the back of a great result.

So, the final! However, EG took on SK for the spot on the podium and after three maps and coming from behind they managed to grab third from EG who must feel they've disappointed after a great first day. Onto the final where fnatic took on Na`Vi. Two great and close maps ensured a tense ending to a great tournament where the Ukrainians in the end took the title. After some awesome play over the last few days they were deserved winners of the IEM global finals.
