Well the matchup which never happened has decided the winner of UKPL. uk 4Kings have taken the crown of the first UKPL by default over uk dignitas. Due to 4K preparing for WCG and dignitas playing in CGS I'm sad to say a rescheduele wasn't possible and the matchup many of you had been waiting for never materialized.

After a season where team dropouts were rife we've ended up with our final standings.

Final standings:

1st. Gold Trophy uk 4Kings - HVPC PC creation and share of profits
2nd. Silver Trophy uk dignitas - 5 x QcK heavy pads
3rd. Bronze Trophy uk strOng~ - 5 x QcK+ pads
4th. uk highfive
5th. uk Pocket Rockets
6th. uk immolate
Joint 7th. uk Infused-Gaming and uk overTime (dropped out)

SkillTracker top 10:

1st. Gold Trophy uk jenuwin (4K) - SteelSeries 4H headset
2nd. Silver Trophy uk AdY (dignitas)
3rd. Bronze Trophy uk wez (AA)
4th. uk RattlesnK (dignitas)
5th. uk Harriman (dignitas)
6th. uk NicholaisoN (4K)
7th. swe Murdy (strOng~)
8th. swe dajo (strOng~)
9th. uk monkE (4K)
10th. uk cRueL (h5)

For the entire list of players click here.

I'd like to thank all the players for competing, as well as to GotFrag and theSGL for making this possible and although the season wasn't as successful as I'd have wanted hopefully it still provided some decent games.

zEx call it a day

Posted by ukNic on the 17th of September 2007 at 8:45 AM in Team News    12 Comments

One of the longest running American CS teams, us zEx, has decided to call it a day. Over the last seven years the lineup has had onboard some of the top names in North American CS, including ca Griffin "shaGuar" Bengel, us Brian "destrukt" Flander and us Dan "aimetti" Aimetti.

The team recorded a decent run of achievements including coming second at ESWC 2003, losing to swe Team9 in the final.

Manager us Naveen Gavini had this to say:

During the past year and a half, as Manager of the organization, the team was a huge part of my life. Over the past seven years, zEx has always featured some of the most premiere players in the world and many of these players are still currently competing at the highest of levels with other teams. Some of these players have retired and moved on from gaming. I would like to thank every player that has ever had an involvement in the zEx organization, without your contributions, the brand would not have continued to perceiver until now.

The team will be dropping out of CEVO-P and the brand will be retired.

CGS interview Team Dignitas

Posted by ukODEE on the 17th of September 2007 at 8:58 AM in Gaming News    4 Comments

The Championship Gaming Series (CGS) has published an interview with the Team Dignitas Counter-Strike squad which is going to participate in the CGS UK Combine this week in Birmingham. In the interview they talk about their Counter-Strike 1.6 background, their change over to CS: Source and their thoughts on both the CGS and the Combine. Below is a small snippet:

Is it a lot like learning a totally new game or do you believe that 1.6 players will have an advantage coming into Source?

RattlesnK: In my opinion we do have an advantage coming into source, our experience at international LAN events will stand us in good stead for the pressures during the CGS combine. Also having played and gelled quickly in teams from our past is only going to help when you’re playing a new game. The in-game smarts from 1.6 will also benefit us when we play source and the team play we bring can be used just as effectively. Although we haven’t played source previously I have no doubts that we can adjust far quicker than players who have had no previous experience in a team player game.

Harriman: I think once all the top 1.6 teams swap to source, given enough time, they will all slowly become the better teams, there will always be new players and team coming through who can get to the same level, but the advantage will be with anyone who’s played competitively at events. Playing online is a totally different thing to playing well at an event, it’s a lot about keeping cool and not getting nervous.

Reality: Before I moved to source, I had the opinion of every other 1.6 player and thought that source was an easy game and I wouldn't have too much trouble. However, I think there is much more to source at higher level than people give it credit for. Of course we will have an advantage over newcomers to source, as although it is a different game it is based upon the same thing, and you can carry much of what you've learnt in 1.6 over to source.

AdY: I don't think we have an advantage as most of the source teams we will be coming up against have been playing and practicing for quite a while but with the team we have I think we definitely have a lot of LAN experience

Mangiacapra: No, I wouldn't say it's like learning a new game, it's more like adapting from 1.6, it's hard to say who has the advantage, but at the US combine 1 CSS team and 7 1.6 teams were drafted, We will see what happens at the UK combine, as there is only a handful of 1.6 players attending.
