UKPL: Qualifiers - Signups open!

Posted by ukNic on the 4th of July 2007 at 2:00 PM in Gaming News    103 Comments

Well, chances are some of you have spotted the signup form just above the search box. Well, I though I'd give a little information about what the so called "Pro League" amounts to.

To fill in the gap between the next CSGN season and the next SGL season, UKCT have teamed up with theSGL to present the six biggest 1.6 UK teams in a single division league. These six teams were strictly invite only and I'm not going to reveal who they are at present.

However! This is an eight team league, meaning there are two open slots left. In order to fill these slots, we'll be running two eight team cups, the first this Sunday and the second on the Monday. A further four teams have been invited in these qualifiers which means there are 12 slots up for grabs.

Each cup will start at 20:00, with the semi finals and final at 21:00 and 22:00 respectively. The maps will be de_nuke, de_train with the final on de_inferno.

Note, in the SteamID box, please say whether you'd prefer Sunday or Monday.

Signups will close Friday, with the teams being revealed that same night. Teams will be chosen on skill, rather than first come first served.

As its being in part run by theSGL, SGLAC will be required, as well as ticked rosters on their site.

Please, don't signup if you can't commit to the day you want to play on. Also, a minority of the invite teams have not confirmed which means a third place playoff between the two losing finalists may be required to decide who gets the last slot.

The league will start proper on either on the 15th or 22nd of July and will run for seven weeks, with matches every Sunday.

Prizes and sponsorships are to be announced in the next few days.

n.b: If you were one of the teams who signed up before I announced this, you'll need to reapply.

4K: Last Ride Pt 3

Posted by ukProtex on the 4th of July 2007 at 8:18 PM in Gaming News    14 Comments

With Parts 1 and 2 done and dusted Hexus.tv have now released Part 3 of the 4Kings documentary focused around the CPL Championship Finals in Dallas last December. Part 3 continues the story and looks at the matches from the second group stage where the 4Kings team (aKuJii, AdY, DaY, Red` and natu) found themselves up against ko LaVeGa, us x3o and us Flow-Gaming and some would say narrowly squeeze through the group.

It once again has some of the thoughts from the players about the matches and the tournament, interviews with their opponents and other bits and pieces thrown in for good measure. It closes leading into the Single-Elim against fn 69N28E with some footage of Gotfrag.TV doing a quick rundown of the teams and prodiving their initial thoughts of the match-up.

If you watched the other two this one continues the story nicely and sets things up for the finale which will show you what happened in the game versus 69N28E and how the players reacted.

This is the first announcement I've had the pleasure to present to the UKCT community. This morning the uk asONE-Gaming organisation made official a move they have been waiting for some time to announce. This is the beginning of the Counter-Strike 1.6 era for asONE. The team consists of the following players:

uk Ben "benje" Pearson
uk Jordan "nOpe" Rigby
uk Peter "suntouch" Logan
uk Rich "rode0" d'Arcy
uk Michael "Hydrogen" Wood

After the asONE-Gaming organisation recruit the ever successful CS Source team paperTIGER the 1.6 team have alot of experience that will be a great match. The teams latest addition is the former uk 4DFX player uk Peter "Suntouch" Logan.

Team Leader uk Ben 'benje' Pearson released the following statement:

I am pleased we have been given this opportunity after playing together for almost two months there was one single change in the roster, this being the recruitment of Peter "suntouch" Logan, fitting in well with our high charismatic approach to the game. Within literally hours of his joining we found ourselves in a whole new frame of mind. We will be using our newly found facilities to practice throughout the summer preparing us for a top form performance in the CSGN Season 10.
