If you haven't yet seen the tournament.com website please take a moment to check it out as there is great promotion at the moment..

"Every new player will enjoy $20 of Bonus Cash automatically credited straight to their account just for registering with us (absolutely no deposit is required). This Bonus Cash cannot be withdrawn but can be used to enter Real Money tournaments. Any winnings you make from these tournaments will be Real Cash and can be withdrawn when the cashier goes live at the end of the month. theSGL: Contender Cup in association with NiP-gaming.com : Prelims - night two

The first round of matches hit the servers last night with the usual mix of opening night "wtf? we have a match?" and "omg! give me five mins to get a team together" without which things really wouldn't be the same. A welcome return to the 1.6 arena for the admin team and things ran rather smoothly indeed.

A list of tonights fixtures along with last nights results backed up with the full statistical breakdown you have come to expect from our unique SkillTracker system and of course all the demos from the matches themselves - follows.

Tonights featured matches:
"en" magic mushrooms vs "uk" Redsky.PKR

What is potentially the closest game of Monday night will unfold at 8:00 between shrooms and redsky, although quite how narrow the margin is will doubtless be determined by who's on form on the day. Shrooms have a reputation of pulling fantastic results out of the bag when you least expect them to - a certain Scan.co.uk victory against AcM rings a bell that will sound very daunting to redsky's players.

A long time has passed since that result and a patchy Intel tournament might indicate they're yet to eradicate some inconsistency. Redsky boast experienced players with previous teams including kArnage and G-Force, and although they are certainly less reputed or proven as a unit than the ever-present magic mushrooms, I can see redsky taking this if shrooms aren't on top form.

CGS Combine - 3D win!

Posted by ukProtex on the 12th of June 2007 at 8:19 AM in Gaming News    61 Comments

The past few days has seen the start of what will become one of the most historic moments in eSports history with the first CGS Combine event, followed today by the Draft of the first franchises.

Top teams from CS 1.6 and CSConfusedource went head-to-head in an effort to set themselves apart from the pack and claim a spot in a CGS Franchise for the USA. In the end it was the 1.6 teams that jumped into the spotlight with former CS 1.6 teams claiming the top four places.

Final standings:

1st. Gold Trophy us 3D
2nd. Silver Trophy us JMC
3rd. Bronze Trophy ca Evil Geniuses
4th. us Check Six
5th-6th. us EFGaming
5th-6th. us Sex Pistols
7th-8th. us Gaming Revolution
7th-8th. us United 5
9th-12th. us compLexity
9th-12th. us Devastation
9th-12th. us Pandemic
9th-12th. us zEx
13th-16th. us Forbidden
13th-16th. us FragFacile
13th-16th. us Hyper!
13th-16th. us verGe

Consolation final:

[match] time= flag1=us team1=JMC score1=10 flag2=ca team2=Evil Geniuses score2=08 [/match]

Grand final:

[match] time= flag1=us team1=JMC score1=07 flag2=us team2=3D score2=10 [/match]

us compLexity started off well but failed to find the spark in the bracket play and went under to ca EG and then us Check6. With us 3D and coL both already linked to two of the franchises; LA and NYC, the rest of the General Managers may well be counting their blessings as one flopped and the other won the combine so there is still plenty of talent to choose from.

The Draft takes place today at the Playboy Mansion and once completed will begin a new era of eSports in the USA that will likely follow into Europe once the CGS qualifiers have finished here.
