http://www.csgn.co.uk/oc06.gif

This month we'll see the biggest CSGN cup in history. Featuring a 32 team tournament consisting of two group stages, then into the finals. This cup will help CSGN when deciding on teams for future season and events, good for teams that have not yet competed in CSGN. It will also help us to start a ranking system which will be used for all upcoming LANs and other leagues.

Here is a better way to explain the way the tournament will be run, taken from the CSGN site.

Tournament Structure
The tournament Open Cup 2006 will consist of two group stages, and then a number of single elimination knockout rounds before the winner is crowned.

Group Stage 1 (32 teams in 8 groups with 4 teams in each)
Group Stage 2 (16 teams in 4 groups with 4 teams in each)
Final Stage – Quarter-Finals (8 teams, single elimination and best of 3 maps)
Final Stage – Semi-Finals (4 teams, single elimination and best of 3 maps)
Final Stage – 3rd Playoff (2 teams, single elimination and best of 3 maps)
Final Stage – Grand Final (2 teams, single elimination and best of 3 maps)

Apart from the impressive list of prizes that are going to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams, from Steelpad, Logitech and Icemat, doing well in this competition will help in your application to future CSGN seasons and LAN events.

Head over to www.CSGN.co.uk for more info and updates on when and how to apply for the CSGN Open Cup!

SK.de close their doors

Posted by ukNic on the 2nd of December 2006 at 6:05 PM in Team News    0 Comments

It has now been announced that the German 1.6 divison of swe SK-Gaming will be closing. A mix of poor results, coupled with instability resulted in the closure.

de Alexander the 1.6 manager had this to say:

Well, we had to face the fact that we just could not support the German team like we wanted to and like they deserved. The problem is also that in Germany, teams change way too fast and building a new team every 5-6 months does not bring the stability to SK-Gaming that we are looking for. Also we want to fully concentrate on our international CS team for 2007. All of those reasons led to the decision.

SK-Gaming Germany was:

de Manuel "approx" Zeitz
de Tim "mason" Kleemann
de Stefan "sTeVe" Eschengert
de Christian "todi" Hackmann
de Kim "vio" Schümann
tr Yasin "y4sin" Kovanci

Good luck to all the players!
