Antivirus for Gamers

Posted by denbesserwisser on the 2nd of June 2006 at 1:40 PM in Gaming News    0 Comments

The world renowned provider of gaming gear SteelSeries has just released a new and different product for gamers. The product is called SteelSecurity and is the first of its kind developed by SteelSeries in partnership with Bullguard a specialist in security solutions. SteelSecurity is a combined Antivirus, Firewall and Antispam program that keeps you and your computer protected.

The main feature in this product - keeping you protected - isn't revolutionary, but keyfeatures such as Game-profiles and the Backup function are specially designed for gamers. SteelSecurity uses a minimum of system resources, and minimizes when going ingame. This means you will never be bothered with sudden updates or planned scans while gaming.

Game-profiles ensures that the newest games on the market will be tried and tested, so that you will never experience any trouble with for instance closed ports in the firewall. The Backup function provides gamers with 1gb of free space, where you can save demos, configs etc. and for instance redownload your config when going to LAN-Centers.

Here is a small snippet from the press release:

Copenhagen, Denmark -- May 30th, 2006 -- SteelSeries, a leading manufacturer of innovative professional gaming gear, announced today a new partnership with BullGuard, specialists in user-friendly PC & Mobile security solutions. The two brands, specialists in their respective areas of business, are together creating the world's first dedicated security solution for online gamers.

The new product, named SteelSecurity, is specifically designed for online gamers, and offers complete anti-virus and firewall protection that has been enhanced with an advanced spamfilter and online backup system, ensuring that the user's online game experience will never be interrupted by malware or virus attacks.

SteelSecurity automatically transitions into "game mode" each time the user launches a supported online game. In "game mode" the application uses only minimal system resources, never initiating system scans and halts auto-updating of virus definitions to allow the user to focus completely on their games. The security application offers integrated support for most popular PC games, and auto-updates with new game profiles as new PC game titles are released.

SteelSecurity will be released Q3 this year and upon release it will be available with a 3 month trial period.

AdY crowned

Posted by ukMartyn on the 2nd of June 2006 at 5:32 PM in Team News    0 Comments

Today Four-Kings announced the recruitment of uk Adam 'AdY' Brown to the team. AdY recently helped out the Four-Kings team at the ESWC UK Finals in Bristol due to no Thomas ' DaY' Rudstrøm being unavailable, and after a solid performance was offered a place in the team. The move may come to a shock to many who dint expect Four-Kings to take on a UK player.
Over at the Four-Kings website an official statement was given by Hotshot the Four-Kings.Counter-Strike team manager.

We're delighted to have Adam joining the team. It might come as a shock to a lot of people that we chose him, but frankly we were pleasantly surprised how readily Adam has gelled with the rest of the team during practice. A solid performance at ESWC UK backed up our feelings and we felt comfortable taking Adam on board. I think it's also nice to welcome in a UK player to the team.

Something we have been criticized for not doing in the past when presented with a similar scenario, Adam has the potential to play extremely well at the highest level and were proud to be able to give him, and the rest of the team, the opportunity to do so

AdY also had this to say...

I hope I can help the team to respectable finishes at the upcoming ESWC and CPL. I enjoyed playing in the ESWC UK qualifier, and honestly didn't expect it to go any further. I’m looking forward to ESWC and CPL, getting on and practicing with the rest of the team and making the most of this opportunity

Best of luck to Adam and to the Four-Kings team.

Interview: Hotshot

With the recent news of uk Adam 'AdY' Brown joinign our beloved 4K, GotFrag jumped right up to interview the manager at the top of the CS team, uk Ed "Hotshot" Harborne.

In the interview he talks about the future of 4K and the next event they will be attending as a 3/5's UK team.

Heres a sample:

Do you see 4K picking up any more UK talent in the future or is the lineup quite stable?

Is a 4K lineup stable? Man I must get asked this every time and I say Yes, and hell my head gets chopped off most of the time. It's as stable as any lineup can be really Smile As for the UK talent part, lets cross that bridge when we come to it.

Today a new team appeared consisting of players from mainly the previously folded ethernet team! The line-up looks as follows...

uk devine
uk finch
uk kid
uk shinobi
uk toM/pr1me
uk Martyn

*Update* It appears that they have now added Martyn to the team who has recently been inactive*

The name of the team is 'dropzn' and I really don't know what that means, it's probably something they did to try to sound clever or something but their CS will do the talking hrhr i''ll shut up

Possibly one of the hottest line-ups to come around since Sgt.Wolfbanger hit the UK scene with their shock signing of Kampin_Bunny.

theSGL: Premiership

Posted by ukmr x on the 5th of June 2006 at 1:51 AM in Gaming News    0 Comments

After a couple of weeks off due to different reasons, the SGL returns after a very successful lan to its online leagues. The admins made the decision to restart the invite division due to inactivity of clans and a new 2 strike system has been implemented to avoid further defaults. The invite division will start on the 14th June

Life goes on however for other divisions and with sgl being the top league in the UK at mo itll be important to all clans. This is the 3/4th game for most clans so divisions may be decided on important games this week! Its de_train this week arguably a CT map; however with the sgl ac enforcing 32 bit I think those T rushes will be the difference.

This is how I preview the Premiership games this week:

[match] time=21:00 flag1=uk team1=dlusive score1=xx flag2=uk team2=ctx score2=xx hltv=www.hltv.org irc=TBA [/match]
dlusive are as active as the Elephant mans sex life and although they have some skilled players i think the lack of practise will cost them in this match. This is to take nothing away from ctx who have had core players playing together for a long time and with the addition of a few new ones have a strong active lineup. I think ctx will win this well but dlusive have done well in their 2 league matches so far dispite choosing WoW over cs .

my prediction: 16-7 to ctx || player to watch = Jons (ctx) , poised (dlu)

[match] time=22:00 flag1=uk team1=kArnage score1=xx flag2=uk team2=planet6 score2=xx hltv=www.hltv.org irc=TBA [/match]
KArnage have removed Gucci and recruited p4k since their last officials and u can only presume this will make them stronger. They are thought of as possible favourites to win the division and this will be a good test for them. After sgl lan Entail left p6 and i think are still trialing for their 5th. They have a 5th signed up on sgl so i presume they will play. They have started badly losing their first 2 games and will need to win this so start climbing the table. I think both will have some T tactics worked out so this should be a good game with both teams looking to
impress.

my prediction: 16-12 to kArnage || player to watch = wack0 (kArn) , Kolobos (p6)

[match] time=22:00 flag1=uk team1=cl_utch! score1=xx flag2=uk team2=TEAMAMERICA score2=xx hltv=www.hltv.org irc=TBA [/match]
Clutch have just joined the division as a replacement team so will look to start their first sgl game with a win. They have 2 sets of brothers in their team and with 2 recent moongames lan wins the teamwork should be good ! They have a hard challenge tho facing TA. TA beat wink yesterday in esl and despite losing their first match to iNey they remain favourites in many peoples eyes to win the division. Both these teams are cool guys and this will be a close match. I think the T pistol and the following momentum will be crucial in this one. There is some good awpers on both teams so a lot will go down to the smoke and rushing. GL to both teams

my prediction: 16-13 to TA || player to watch = RAikyuu (cl) , spk or toko if he mercs (TA)

[match] time=22:00 flag1=uk team1=iNey score1=xx flag2=uk team2=noFeaR! score2=xx hltv=www.hltv.org irc=TBA [/match]
Both these teams have won their first 2 games. iNey took on the grinded lineup with a team of Nirish players tho they recently have added an englishman (sorted) and a scotsman (kalleh) to their roster. They have also been mentioned as favourites to win the division and i can see these having a solid ct half. Nofear on the otherhand only just got 5 members again and will be practising train hard to keep up their unbeaten run. iNey go in as favs to win howeve rnoFeaR still have a couple of days to get their train tactics tuned and I think this will be a good game

my prediction: 16-10 to iNey || player to watch = HazEH (iney) , robbs (nf)

[match] time=22:00 flag1=uk team1=Luck score1=xx flag2=uk team2=PLAYED! score2=xx hltv=www.hltv.org irc=TBA [/match]
Luck although a long lasting clan have also just joined sgl as a replacement team and consquently will be looking to start with a win and prove they belong in prem. I dont know too much about Lucks new lineup but with de_train needing good teamwork it will be a gd test for them. They play PLAYED who have not started as well as expected this season and despite some skilled players I think these play more as a friends mix. The team has been together a long time tho so should have some train tactics already sorted. Im not sure how this match will go, will depend whose warmed up and ready to rumble.

my prediction 16-13 to Clan Luck || player to watch = Jorder (luck) , Yodor (PLAYED)

I know most of these clans quite well so I am interested in the matches. Those who dont care I hope u had enough sense to stop reading rather than just spam "CARE-related jokes" . Good luck to all teams and if i have gone against u .. prove me wrong Grin

I dont know enough about other divisions to give any sort of a prediction but looks like some good games in every division. Some things to watch could be the new dropzone in division one against ubs and theSPARTANS who gave atr a good go last night in esl in division 2 playing Valor
