Something for the future.
Baring in mind the hard work and subsequent progress on our website, one would hope that even the most modest of CSGN users will have noticed a few steps forward. In all fairness the majority of these have been planned and in the pipeline for quite some time! The most obviously of which is probably the choice to launch Team CSGN, followed by the start of a number of smaller competitions such as the CSGN 2v2 Cup, as well as the new and improved Games Arena, Public (Death Match) server - eventually to have stats and CSGAC running – all of which are designed to help the general CSGN user to get involved where previously they have been unable. It gives them something extra to follow (possible even care about), more to get involved in and more to do when bored!
So, we have been planning this further development for quite sometime. In fact, if I remember correctly, we first came up with it while I was splattered on Karl’s floor after/just-before our first LAN event. We didn’t act on it then, because one thing you can’t have failed to notice is CSGN is here to stay, and as such we have never felt the need to rush things. We live our lives by the highly cliché, but ultimately true; Good Things Come To Those Who Wait. Obviously the crunch comes when deciding exactly how long to wait. As such, we feel the time is now.
Inline with the gradual expansion CSGN has undertaken to date, and the planned extension we have in mind for the future, we have decided to rebrand from ‘Counter-Strike Gaming Network’ to ‘Cyber-Sports Gaming Network’. Why? Because we don’t’ always see ourselves being only a counter-strike gaming organisation. This does not mean we are starting new leagues for new games tomorrow, next week, next month or possibly even next year, but it does mean we have the foresight to realise Counter-Strike Gaming Network isn’t quite as marketable to WoW or DoD as it is to CS itself ;-). Likewise, this does not mean that we are now CPL PRO wannabe’s going to take over the world. In the words of Tony from IEO (over at our Forums): “…Most importantly, don't be a leet wannabe dic*head who's got CPL aspirations...”. We have a similar outlook here at CSGN.
What does this mean? To the average CSGN user, not much. We are pretty much always referred to as CSGN. And obviously the new name is still CSGN. The people I have met at recent LAN events to such as ESWC and i24, do not introduce me to their clan-mates as Obsidian/Jamie from Counter-Strike Gaming Network, but very much from “CSGN”. So why bother? See previous point - imagine trying to get sponsors or encourage NEW members into our community for alternative games with our previous full name.

Late news now; Last weekend saw another addition of RogueLan. There wasn't a great turn out, with 45 participants playing a range of games, from CS to Painkiller.
There was a big problem on the first day of play, the internet went down. With major delays, the head admin managed to fix the problem which was the modem, and play got underway on Saturday.
Heres how the CS tournament ended up, with 1st place prize being 'Box of case modding products, Box of PC Games, 5 Steelpad QcK+ and 5 Everglide pads, 5 Alienware t-shirts' and second place prize being '5 Everglide pads'.

Importance of the First Frag

A rather interesting article has been published over at [gotfrag] entitled 'GameSensed: The importance of the First Frag'.
The article's basic principle is that the team to make the first kill, 'entry kill' is a LOT more likely to win that particular round. This judgement is not just an American Idiot's (

) opinion though, the article is backed up with hard evidence using [gotfrag]'s unique gaming stats, GameSence.
The team that gets the first frag in a round wins 75% of those rounds. Seventy-five percent! Simply put, if your team is better at striking first, then odds are, you're going to win the match. Period. We've got 15,000 Rounds of CS in GameSense to back this up. It is also staggering how consistent that 75% mark is. I took several random samples of 10, 50, and 100 rounds at a time, and that percentage never deviated by more than a couple percent. Now, first frag statistic is alarming by itself, but there is a lot more we can reveal.
While his writing style is some what tedious (SP!) and moronic, the message conveyed (SP!) is really interesting, and its good to know its more or less the truth!

ESWC Starts on wednesday, and its all we seem to see on the larger esport sites at the moment! This is just a short post to give you quick links to some really good previews, if you havn't seen them already!
>>
NiP-Gaming
By far the best preview, includes interviews with nearly every seeded team, aswell as predictions and breakdowns of the teams! It even has pictures!

Complexity Syndicate
This preview is also rather good, even if its written by an over opinionated American who is completly biased. Like NiP, the preview has some great breakdown's of the teams, and how well we should expect them to do!

SK-Gaming
Im a little dissapointed with their preview, as they usually provide the best coverage. All they seem to have is the seeds at the moment, but I am linking this because im sure they will bring out something like interviews and stuff. Plus, if you want to know the results fast, this is the place to get them!
