4K^GoodFella interviewed by UKCT

Posted by ukenuex on the 3rd of January 2005 at 1:13 AM in Gaming News    0 Comments

As we enter 2005, a whole new year of competitions beckon for any and all CS teams, and an entire year of constant game development as CS: Source progresses and discussions of "Pro" modifications arise. With the CPL launching more competitions this year than any before as a result of their World Tour combined with the regeneration of [clanbase] with significant prize cash and LAN finals, many opportunities await active gaming teams with the funding and sponsorship to make use of them. Coming off the back of a decidedly disappointing 2004, with 13-16th place finishes at both [cpl] Championship events, and an all but no-show with their mix line-up at the [wcg], uk Four Kings are one team with the skill, reputation, funding potential and something to prove, and so can really make use of the budding CS world and the tournaments that await.

So it was nice for one of the team's in-form players swe/fn GoodFella to take some time out to answer some of my questions regarding all the above topics, and reflect on what truly has gone wrong for the team, as opposed to what many speculate to be their problems. Here's a small sample:

UKCT :: It has been widely suggested in various big tournament previews and post tournament write-ups that 4K lack team work and that their tactics are not as polished as other major rivals, and this is often attributed to roster instability, would you say there was any particular depth to these arguments, and do you think that there is a noticable difference in comparison to your experiences in Adrenaline, Rival, and Begrip etc?

[4K^GoodFella] ::

Honestly some of the articles I've read are just bulls*** if you ask me Smile It feels like the writer doesn't know what he's on about and just pulls something out of his imagination to fill the spaces sometimes. But to answer your question, I dont think that's the case. We had a very good team with Snajdan after bootcamping for a month in Stockholm, but it's hard to switch a player since you have to start over from the beginning with practising everything! It takes time and that's something we'll be working on now! The most important thing with a tactic is not really the tactic itself but to be sure everyone knows exactly what everyone's doing, and that takes some time!

Zabulos reform!

Posted by ukpie on the 3rd of January 2005 at 11:19 AM in Team News    0 Comments

As the title suggests quite bluntly, former uk clan uk Zabulos reform! Here is the current lineup:

uk admje
uk daNjii
uk j0nj3
ie zonE^
uk ool (inactive 6th)

As you can see an incomplete roster unless they aim to tackle the 4on4 ED League (is there even one?), but im told they are looking for 1/2 more members, and are currently trialing! I caught up with admje for a couple of questions;

What are the aims of the clan?

aim, to be a well established clan and become a good uk clan Smile

Will we see you guys at LAN's?

We are currently just starting to play properly as a team so lans around the March - April area , possibly i-23 or Landed 9 and i'm sure we will go to the unicon tournements aswell! Tongue

It will be hard to communicate to zonE, not only is he Irish but he sounds like he's hyperventilating and in dire need of oxygen, but I and [ukct] wish them the very best of luck! #zabulos

Love ya z Wink

4K^aKuJii 'spotlighted' by eSLive

Following on from our interview with uk Four Kings' Finnish-Swede GoodFella, relatively new 'eSports' site [eslive] has talked to GoodFella's team mate and ex uk Infinity-eSports player, Keir 'Akujii' McCann.

The interview focuses more on the player and his opinions regarding the current CS scene and the gradual rise of CS: Source, and touches on some of the team's affairs as well. Here's a snip:

Do your parents and close friends support you in your gaming career? Do they follow your results?

aKuJii:

Hmmm well I think my old man follows the results although he has absolutely no idea what they mean except if one is bigger than the other that team wins. My friends, well they arent too sure exactly how deep I am into it and i guess it is better that way although the mysterious disappearing and having too explain it can when I get back can get a bit tedious! A couple of them do know but dont really understand the magnitude of the gaming community.

Worth a read if you have some time, although the Qs and As are brief they are plentiful - click here to see it, but you have to be registered with the site first.

New C-D & ESL re-open ladders

Posted by ukenuex on the 4th of January 2005 at 3:15 AM in Gaming News    0 Comments

After just over a week of inactivity, the [esl] have decided to resume all Counter-Strike ladders. This comes as a result of the latest version of their chosen anticheat client, Cheating-Death, being released. This version stops a recent cracked version of C-D which authenticated the user as one with the latest version of C-D without them having C-D running at all (and with C-D servers being VAC-less, this meant even the most ancient of CS 1.6 hacks and cheats worked). Here's the statement from the [esl]:

One week ago we had to close all CS Ladders due to a CD Hack temporarily. Following on from today's Cheating Death update (ver. 4.27.2) we are now able to re-open the Counter-Strike leagues again for matches. The current Anti-Cheat recommendation for matches is therefore naturally Cheating Death. In order to be sure that on your Gameserver also has the most current Cheating Death, the following command of "cdrequiredversion = auto" must be in the Server config. This can be examined from outside of the server by HLSW before a match.

The Admin Team wishes all the players the best of luck within our ladders and we hope you can all play your matches with the safe feeling that Cheating-Death is available to stop the select few that are trying to ruin the game we all love.

Well then, those of you that use C-D (if you don't, you should - get PCWs in #CDpcw) can update to 4.27.2 by clicking here or using this list of mirrors should the UA site get the usual slow down that accompanies every C-D update. Happy paranoia-less fragging!

CB OC Final - Calibre vs CTF

Posted by ukenuex on the 4th of January 2005 at 3:59 AM in Gaming News    0 Comments

This evening sees the final of the [clanbase] Open Cup Division 1 Fall 2004 take place, involving nl Calibre and and the Spaniards es Club Team Falcons. Whereas nl Calibre have had a fairly comfortable journey into the final, es CTF went through a triple-overtime scare in the first knockout stage, before finally overcoming de Gods Inc. 25-23.

Brit fans will no doubt want to see how nl Calibre perform, remembering that they feature uk UK players Kardy and Marcus.

[match] time=21:00 flag1=nl team1=Calibre score1=16 flag2=es team2=Club Team Falcons score2=07 hltv=proxy1.hltv.nu:27020 irc=opencup.cs.1 [/match]

There will also be a shoutcast available here, but right now the DJ seems to speaking a mix of Dutch and English. Which one he settles on come the actual match time (if he does at all), we'll have to wait and see. Good luck to both sides.
