Many of you may remember
Hertz from a few months back, a top clan that consisted of some very skilled players like AKuJii and Dark0r who now play for
I-eS. Well
Hertz has reformed with a few of the old line-up and some fresh blood. I caught up with
NuK for a lowdown on the current situation.
It's winter, it's cold, got a new connection, see people winning prizes playing games. I decided to start gaming again. It’s a perfect opportunity to reform Hertz and even better when my good friend Travis, aka ubj is up for a piece of the action. We both decided to reform Hertz still possessing the IRC channel and Q along with other useful gaming contacts worth using to start gaming on a serious level.
Our Team line up is still in progress it should be finalized soon.
We hope we can achieve a level of gaming and teamwork to compete against the top 5 in UK and hope to attend as many LAN‘s as possible starting with our first taking place in Livingston, Uprising LAN.
Move aside TAG and 4k, you need to be taught a lesson 
As soon as the final line-up is announced i'll update this post.
Hertz are currently in
CSGN division 2 and have a match tonight at 8pm, details on the main news page.

Steam Update

This week there's a rather big update from Steam which will add some considerable changes to the game as we know it, the biggest being the changes to the money system.
COUNTER-STRIKE:
Fixed bug where shield would be invisible if a player picked the shield up immediately after throwing a grenade.
The round timer is now disabled when the bomb is planted.
The winning defensive team now gets the same amount of money whether they win by round timeout or not ($3250 instead of $2000)
Players on the offensive team who survive the round due to a round timeout no longer receive money the next round.
The Terrorists get an additional $800 per player if they plant the bomb but lose the round.
Fixed exploit where when a player died they could sometimes join the other team during the same round.
ENGINE:
Fixed custom decals not being downloaded from the server correctly.
Fixed custom decals drawing incorrectly for the host of a listen server after another player joins.
Fixed vgui textures being corrupted after going over a number of level changes.
Fixed problem where player would be sometimes be forced to look straight up after task switching in and out of game in fullscreen d3d mode.
Fixed problem in sound system where it wouldn’t properly be shutdown at the end of a .wav file.
Fixed banner picture not working correctly in HLTV.
VGUI:
Changed the way that Asian fonts are displayed in game for compatibility on more platforms.
Optimized VGUI to use less system resources when running on the desktop.
GAMEUI:
Fixed error message that was cut off when a player was disconnected from a game server.

Over at the BBC website they have written an article covering the
CXG which focuses mainly on the players who attended the event from all parts of the globe.
Top players there can make $100,000 a year. Some gamers even have Elvis-like followings. But gamers like Tahir Zafar say they are not so interested in money and fame. Mr Zafar is a member of a sponsored British team, Four-Kings Intel who spent up to 10 hours a day preparing for the Las Vegas tournament. "Start of a brand new year, and you're getting paid to come to Vegas, and we're just having a wicked time," said Mr Zafar.

CyberAthlete Amatuer League or
CAL for short will be making changes to their league rules due to the pending
Steam update. The roundtime which is usualy 3 minutes will be dropped to 2 minutes 30 seconds now that the new money system is in place, they hope to create a faster more action packed game. Although this is only for a test period to see how it works out.

Cliffe, the co-creator of Counter-Strike and present VALVe employee, has announced a few more changes to CS for the next Steam update. Speaking after feedback from a
recent article on GotFrag?, he unveiled some decisions by VALVe - often regarded as ignoring the community (after the changes in jumping in 1.4 and the steam/shield/1.6 affair) - that they hope to implement this time next week:
The Opaque radar and zoomed sig/aug xhairs are next on my list. I agree that these are things that we should have fixed long ago... should be in the Steam update next week.
Cliffe has also requested community opinions on the controversial shield, and has invited us to e-mail such opinions to cliffe (at) valvesoftware (dot) com.
These problems have long been in CS and the time for which they should have been fixed by is long overdue. Hopefully, however, their response time to the 'smoke bug' won't be quite so long...

Although not explicity mentioned, has the smoke bug been fixed on the quiet? A few people have been saying it wasn't working anymore, and a check of this proved them right...
First Hand: Why CXG Failed

An admin employed during the recent eSports catastrophe, the
Cyber X Games, has written a first-hand account of all the organisational failures of the event, in quite a lot of detail. One interesting part summarises the security - or lack of - at the event, as we all know there was major theft of Shuttle PC machines as well as other equipment.
At the main building, at least one back door was ajar because of power cables going through and no one watched it. I passed through dozens of times with no security watching me. I could have carried out thousands of dollars of stuff. As I write this, I'm finding out my wife's new Sennheiser headphones were probably stolen. Late last night one of the 'guards' found out how to play DVDs on the AMD booth's equipment, and sat and watched movies all night instead of paying attention to anyone entering or leaving.
